Industry Insider #15

This is Industry Insider: a weekly 5-minute brief with key news, interviews, advice, smart picks & follows, built for artists and industry folks alike.
WHAT'S INSIDE
☝️ ONE BIG THING
Rediscover what you already have.
Sometimes you don’t need a new plan, a new tool, or a new year.
You need a person.
And the annoying part is: asking for help is hard, even when you’re surrounded by people who’d show up for you if you let them. So when someone steps in without being asked, it hits different. It lands like proof.
That happened to me this morning. I’d been up all night with brutal sinuses and a migraine, running on fumes, dreading the kid drop-offs. My wife already works obscene hours, and she still took the hit for me. She didn’t “save the day.” She just quietly did the thing. The real thing.
Here’s what I keep relearning:
You can lose stuff and survive.
You can lose status and rebuild.
But losing the people you can count on will mess you up in ways you don’t see coming.
Yes, it’s the holiday season and yes this risks sounding like Hallmark propaganda. Whatever. The point stands.
The best gift you can give yourself isn’t chasing something shiny. It’s looking at what’s already in arm’s reach with fresh eyes, and not squandering it out of boredom, resentment, or distraction.
So, quick nudge: think of the person who’s been holding you up in small, consistent ways. Text them. Thank them. Mean it.
And now, on to the rest of the newsletter.
